About Cheryl

With over sixty years of being human (daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, colleague, partner) and over thirty years in the helping professions, I’ve learned a lot about life and people.

My story

I’m an expressive therapist, educator and supervisor of trainee, graduate and experienced mental health practitioners. I live and work part-time in Inverloch, where I offer Sandplay and expressive therapies, and I offer supervision online.

I’ve worked in the helping professions for over thirty years, with individuals, couples, families and children. To better understand what makes us tick, and how we heal from trauma and old wounds, I’ve taken part in many learning programs. They’ve given me a range of approaches, so I can respond to each person in the way that best meets their needs.

My approach

I’m fundamentally person-centred in both therapy and supervision. I trust in each person’s innate wisdom and orientation towards growth.

I see therapy and supervision as collaborative journeys, where I walk alongside another person, listening deeply and compassionately to understand and appreciate their experience. I look for the gold within, sharing my observations and reflections to expand self-awareness and understanding.

To help process experience, I also use creative activities and somatic experiencing, working with images, symbols, drawing, creative writing, story-telling and body sensations.

Whether I’m working with clients or supervisees, I’m committed to creating a safe space where each person can be seen, heard, understood, accepted and valued. Within that space, healing and growth take place. Research in relational neuroscience now offers a significant body of evidence for what I’ve long believed: relationship itself is healing.
